Modern Piano

Students on this course have an option on taking ANZCA (Australian New Zealand Cultural Arts) as the main modern piano exam board. ANZCA offers world class music examinations in Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong. They are designed to stimulate and excite musicians by providing syllabuses that are at once refreshing and educational.

All aspects of the syllabuses have been arranged carefully according to levels, with due regard to the educational merit underlying each requirement. ANZCA has been at the forefront in developing modern stream examinations for Australasia, encouraging improvisation from the very beginning; while also emphasising similar levels of sight-reading, technical work, and aural for the practical components. Theory exams are also designed differently to cater to the style/genre (pop/rock, ragtime, blues, latin, jazz, etc) of music.

Whether you’re a child or adult, this syllabus is fun and enjoyable!

Exam components within the ANZCA include: –

Technical Work
3 Pieces (Prep – Grade 3) or
4 Pieces with improvisation on at least 1 piece (Grades 4-8)
Sight Reading (all grades) or Improvisation (Grade 2 onwards)
Aural
General Knowledge

Our school will also be offering TCL (Trinity College London) Pop/Rock Keyboards syllabus to cater to the ever growing scene of popular music! This board offers music from a huge range of hit songs and pieces, spanning all contemporary styles. Candidates are exposed to improvisational techniques and many genres from a young age. Students are also able to perform their own compositions, further pushing the boundaries of one’s creativity.

The inclusion of popular pieces makes this exam syllabus very relatable to what we hear on radio and streaming services (Spotify, YouTube, etc); allowing students to master modern playing/accompaniment techniques!

Exam components within TCL Pop/Rock include: –

3 Pieces (with and without backing track)
Session Skills (Playback or Improvisation)
